Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) Eligibility Specialist
Position is responsible for enrolling eligible participants in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).  Maintain CSFP box issuance tracking system.  Provides exceptional customer service and support to CSFP participants and the department as needed.   Maintains professional business relations with outside contacts and staff.  Keeps CSFP Coordinator and management well informed of program activities.

Educational/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent GED.  Some college course study considered a plus or a related field.

Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of database reporting, proficiency with Excel, Word and Outlook.   Data entry and ability travel within Harris County. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.



Billing Specialist
Position is responsible for reviewing, preparing, monitoring and posting agency invoices, customer invoices, maintaining receivable schedules and account receivable ledger reconciliations, month, quarter, yearend close, including contract invoicing and other related program financial duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.   The Billing Specialist is also responsible for back up Receptionist duties approximately 10 hours each week. 

Education: High school graduate and or equivalent training and education. An Associate’s degree in a related field of study is preferred

Experience:  Requires two to three years experience in general accounting. Some government contract accounting experience is a plus. Advance level of proficiency in the use of MS Office, including Word, Excel and other related applications. Some experience with Microsoft Business Solutions Navision accounting system is also a plus.



Public Policy Coordinator 
The position will be responsible for building relationships with elected and other government officials to create stronger partnerships in the fight against hunger.  Position will also research, formulate and implement advocacy strategies with key stakeholder groups.  Monitor hunger-related activities at all levels of government.  Establish and coordinate an outreach plan to build community engagement with HFB.  Maintain data sources and web pages to support strategic communications.

Experience
At least two to three years of experience in organizing toward a policy goal or in a related area.

Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or a related area. Master’s degree in education, public administration or public policy preferred.


Product Recovery Area (PRA) Associate
Position is responsible for maintaining smooth operations of all day-to-day Product Recovery functions as they relate to working lines 1 and 2, Repack Room, Family Aisle and volunteer care. Pull and inspect product, and sort product into assigned categories. Provides exceptional customer service and support to Administrative and Operations programs as needed.   Maintains professional business relations with staff and volunteers. Train all volunteers in the various aspects of their assigned task, tag product and keep PRA clean and orderly at all times.   Keeps management well informed of area activities.

Educational/Experience
High School Diploma, GED, or equal industry experience, previous experience in food Warehousing and/or like business.

Skills/Abilities
Strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others. Stand-up forklift experience preferred.


Houston Food Bank-Social Services Team Lead
The Houston Food Bank Social Service Outreach Program (SSOP) assists clients with applying for state public benefit programs such as SNAP-food stamps, Medicaid, CHIP, TANF and others. Field workers travel to social service agencies in 12 counties and provide outreach, education, application assistance and interview clients for state public benefit programs.  The Social Services Team Lead provides mentoring and coaching to coordinators and specialists within the team lead's assigned territories at a non-supervisory level.  The Social Services Team Lead will help facilitate information from the supervisor to the coordinators and specialists.  Is actively aware of what is going on within the team at all times.  Knows where team members will be daily and weekly.  Actively supports the team, assists the team with interviewing clients should team members require help.  Contacts supervisor when need arises.
 The Social Services Team Lead will provide application assistance to clients for state public benefit programs either in the field or in the SSOP Office.

Experience
Bi-lingual English/Spanish Preferred.   One to five years of experience providing case work or case management services to clients in the Houston Area.  Experience in determining eligibility for city, county or state benefits programs preferred.  Knowledge of HIPAA laws and compliance.   Experience in a social service agency preferred.  One to three years of supervisory experience preferred.  Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook a must.  Ability to understand and follow directions and complete complex state benefits applications.  Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions such as add and multiply.  Must possess excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.  

Education
BA in Social Work, Sociology or Psychology.


Development Coordinator
Primarily responsible for assisting the Chief Development Officer with the Houston Food Bank’s $50M capital campaign. Duties will include working closely with capital campaign committee members, attending campaign meetings, scheduling meetings, overseeing the preparation of campaign proposals and materials and updating campaign donor records. Responsibilities also include administrative support for the Chief Development Officer and senior directors, preparation for twice monthly department meetings, participation in department fundraising events and projects, production of donor information reports from Raiser’s Edge, and drafting of regular correspondence as needed for the development department. Assists with the development and implementation of donor stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for major donors and prospects both for the capital campaign and the organization as a whole. Other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the organization’s business strategies and mission.

Experience
Two to three years experience in non-profit fundraising and/or related training an development. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Outlook required; Raiser’s Edge is preferred.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English/History, Social Work or related field is preferred. Must be able to work in a team oriented environment. Familiarity with local donor community is a plus.


Social Services Receptionist
The Houston Food Bank Social Service Outreach Program (SSOP) assists clients with applying for state public benefit programs such as SNAP-food stamps, Medicaid, CHIP, TANF and others.   The Social Services Receptionist will provide call center support by answering and transferring phone calls, taking messages for staff, assisting SSOP clients and guests who walk into the building to include volunteers, and other general support duties. 

Experience
One to three years of switch board or call center experience preferably in a social service setting.  Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.   Proficiency using Microsoft Office Programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook a must.  Ability to understand directions and complete complex state benefits applications.  Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions, such as add and multiply.  Must possess excellent written, verbal communication and customer service skills.

Education
High School Diploma or GED required.  Sixty college hours or associates degree preferred.



Jr. Help Desk
The help desk position for the Houston Food Bank is responsible for providing technical support to all levels of staff. Technical support includes the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of a variety of applications and operating systems.  The help desk position is the first line of assistance and is instrumental in maintaining business continuity. The help desk candidate must possess these specific skills: analytical, technical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Main job tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: respond to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically, diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues; advise user on appropriate action, log all help desk interactions, identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention, stay current with system information, and maintain clear and concise documentation.

Education/Experience
Technical Degree or Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or equivalent training and experience in a related field of study is required with a minimum of two years related work experience.

Skills/Abilities
Hardware and software setup, configuration and diagnosis, software issue resolution and diagnosis. Knowledge of IT help desk process is a plus and knowledge of database reporting, proficiency with Excel, Word and Outlook.
 


Truck Driver
Deliver Member Agency orders and pick-up food donations and/or purchased products timely, accurately, strictly in compliance to all establish guidelines set by the Houston Food Bank, Department of Transportation, all local, state, and federal guidelines/regulations, while providing exemplary customer service to both Internal and External Customers.

Educational/Experience
High School Diploma or approved equivalency, valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License:

  • Class “A” for tractor/trailer equipment.
  • Class “B” for bobtail equipment.
  • Class “C” for all other equipment.

Approved 3-Year (Clean/Clear/No Violations) Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), pass Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical. Three years knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations. Three years driving/operating “Equipment” based on classifications above and all MHE (Material handling Equipment). 

Skills/Abilities
Possess strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others, communicate complex information timely, consistently, and clearly, attentive to detail, self motivated/directed, ability to problem solve, coordinate and positive interaction with other departments, personnel and “Customers” of the Houston Food Bank.


Warehouse Associate
Position is responsible for maintaining smooth operations of all day-to-day receiving functions as they relate to Donation, Order selectors, administration, personnel, RODS accuracy Bin Slotting and FIFO processes.  Provides exceptional customer service and support first shift receiving and Operations programs as needed.  Maintain professional business relations with staff and outside contacts.  Keep Warehouse Manager well informed of all area activities.

Educational/Experience
High School Diploma, GED, or commensurate industry experience, previous experience in food Warehousing and/or like business. Experience in food warehousing or inventory management. At least two years of Food Grade Warehouse experience.

Skills/Abilities
Strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others. Able to communicate complex information clearly. Attentive to detail. Strong problem-solving abilities. Able to coordinate well with other departments and personnel. Ability to operate all types of warehouse machinery, stand-up & sit down forklift, long and short pallet jack, manual jack, computer, copier and other business equipment.



Nutrition Educator (part-time)
This position is responsible for assisting the Operation Frontline Coordinator in teaching nutrition education classes, coordinating classes with hosting agencies by determining location, dates, and times for teaching courses. Assists coordinator with the supervision of Dietetic Interns and acts as a liaison between collaborating agencies and the Houston Food Bank.

Education/Experience
BA in Nutrition, Health Education, or related field from a four-year college or university. Experience working/teaching individuals from all age ranges preferred.

Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of basic nutrition, physical activity, and health-related topics.  Proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook.
 


General Cook
To support the efforts of the Executive Chef  in preparing quality food items in a timely, consistent, and professional manner. Maintain a clean and well stocked food presentation area. Rotate and stock perishable inventory. Report to work for assigned shifts wearing uniform which complies with standards. Ensure that all shift duties are completed and additional time is used effectively. Assist with the maintenance checklist as specified by company policy. Continually clean and sanitize food preparation area, equipment, and storage areas. Cooks are also responsible for helping to maintain accurate food inventories and rotating stock items and for preparing and food.  

Education/Certification
Educational background normally attained through at high school diploma or a G.E.D. Appropriate Food Handlers Permit. 

Required Knowledge
At least six months of work experience in the food service industry with previous prep cook experience and previous experience with kitchen sanitation.
